Ride The Shoulders

If you have been riding your bike around Austin for any time at all, you have probably realized that major highways like 360, 620, and Parmer Lane can all be vital parts of any bicycle route. But are you frustrated or intimidated by the concept of riding on the shoulders with high speed traffic a few feet away? Or have you wished you could ride up and down Highway 360, only to give up the first time you encountered those frightening on/off ramps at 2222 and 2244? If this sounds all too familiar, we have a class for you! Come learn best practices for riding the most challenging portions of Highway 360. Certified instructors with the League of American Bicyclists will teach and demonstrate the safest techniques for navigating the shoulders.Take this class and gain the skills and confidence required to ride confidently and safely on the shoulders. Registration is required and class size is limited.

This class is for adults only. You need to be a fairly competent cyclist to take this class. You must be able to scan behind you, maintain a straight line of travel, and be very comfortable on your bike.

If you think you may not be ready for this class, consider taking the more comprehensive "Traffic Skills 101" class, also offered on this web site. During the 9-hour Traffic Skills 101 class you will learn the skills and techniques to make you a more confident and competent cyclist.
